Professional One-on-One Tutoring Available Both In-Person and Online

The Math Doctor is a one-on-one tutoring service that specializes in one-on-one tutoring for all levels and all types of math (algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, calculus, statistics, and more), including online courses. In addition to math, expert tutoring in physics, as well as tests such as the PSAT, SAT, SAT II, ACT, ELM, CBEST, GRE, etc., is also available.

Tutoring is online, and even better than in-person!  The student can upload their work (whether that work is online or paper in hand) directly on the screen with two clicks, and the problems are worked and explained in real time.

The screen is an infinite multipage virtual whiteboard, and all lessons remain available even after the session!  There is no video or screen sharing -- this means that the student has complete privacy (anything on the screen must be directly uploaded), but, of course, there is audio.

In short, it works just like in-person tutoring, with the added benefit of having technical tools that would not be available in-person.  Even skeptics of online tutoring (due to the mess of things the schools made during the pandemic, as well as the inadequacies of how virtual education often goes) have quickly come to appreciate the benefits of this system!

The fee is $50/hr (40/hr for two or more hours/wk) and $10/hr for each additional student. There are no signup fees or commitment—it is a pay-as-you-go service—and comes with a 100% guarantee (if you are not 100% satisfied, you owe nothing). Accepted forms of payment are cash, check, Venmo, Zelle, and PayPal.

Teacher writing math on board

Below is an example of a screenshot of an assignment uploaded by a student and filled in by the tutor (with work and further explanation being displayed on other pages).

The student uploads his or her work directly onto the screen, and the tutor explains and demonstrates in real time.  One of the advantages of online vs in-person tutoring is the ability to use color emphasis to highlight, which cannot be done in-person, since any mistake could not be erased when using color pens.

In addition, with in-person tutoring, the tutor cannot write on the student's assignment, whereas this is not the case for online.

In the screenshot above, the student/tutor can upload work (from a book, packet, screenshot, etc.) directly onto the whiteboard. This can then be moved about and/or resized, rotated, etc. The student/tutor can then highlight portions of the problem, explaining as they go via the microphone, and work the problem showing all the steps. Furthermore, multiple pages are possible, and there is the option to record the session for future reference. This free software works on any platform—iOS, Windows, and Android—but recording requires a paid subscription, which The Math Doctor will deduct from the tutoring fee (for a year subscription) if a minimum of four sessions are paid for in advance. However, students can also continue with the free version and take screenshots of the pages if they prefer.

All the feedback from students who've used this has been very positive! If you're still unsure about online tutoring, the first half-hour is free with no obligation, so give it a try—I'm positive you'll be as enthusiastic about it as everyone else has been!
